Yahaya Bello: Adeyanju Slams Kogi Assembly over Calls for EFCC Chairman’s Removal

Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju on Tuesday, condemned the Kogi State House of Assembly for advocating for the dismissal of Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Adeyanju claimed that the Assembly should have focused on the enormous theft that occurred during the government of former Governor Yahaya Bello.

It should be recalled that the Assembly demanded Olukoyede’s removal over claims of alleged assassination attempts on Bello, who they see as a threat to the current governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo.

They accused the anti-graft agency of attacking the governor’s lodge unprovoked and suggested the EFCC is acting as if it were above the law.

Reacting, Adeyanju said the Assembly’s actions are a blatant disregard for justice and the welfare of the people of Kogi State.

A statement by Adeyanju reads: “I express deep concern over the Kogi State House of Assembly’s recent resolution calling for the removal of EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

“Instead of focusing on the massive looting of the state’s treasury under Bello’s administration and probing him, the Assembly have joined in the dance of shame of defending fugitive Bello.

“The people of Kogi deserve answers, not theatrics. Yahaya Bello’s tenure was marred by corruption, mismanagement, and financial impropriety, resulting in dire economic straits for the state.

“The Assembly’s actions are a blatant disregard for justice and the welfare of the Kogi people. It’s time for citizens to reflect on the kind of leaders they elect. Leaders without moral and ethical grounding prioritize their interests over public service. I urge the people of Kogi to stop electing individuals who have no regard for the rule of law or public service.

“The EFCC’s mandate is to fight corruption, and they must be allowed to do their job without interference. Any attempt to shield corrupt individuals from justice undermines the Nigerian people’s fight against corruption. I stand with the people of Kogi in demanding transparency, accountability, and justice. Kogi deserves better.”
