WAEC Withholds 215,267 Results over Examination Malpractice | METROWATCH

Following the announcement of the 2024 Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) results, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) disclosed that the results of 215,267 applicants are being withheld due to numerous alleged incidences of examination misconduct.

A total of 1,805,216 applicants took the examination from 25,126 secondary schools in Nigeria.

Out of all the applicants who sat the exam, 1,685,889 (93.39 percent) have had all of their papers released, while 119,327 (6.61%) still have specific subjects being processed.

The council mentioned that this represents a 4.37 percent decrease from the 16.29 percent seen in the 2023 WASSCE for school candidates.

In terms of performance analysis, 1,332,089 candidates (73.79 percent) achieved credit and above in at least five subjects (with or without English and/or Mathematics).

Additionally, 1,301,941 candidates (72.12 percent) obtained credit and above in a minimum of five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.

Comparing year-on-year data for this category, the 2024 WASSCE showed a 7.69 percent drop from the 79.81 percent pass rate observed in 2023.
