The All Progressives Congress (APC), baring any last minute hitch, is set to present its flag to Senator Monday Okpebholo as its Governorship candidate for the September 21 election in Edo State.
The flag presentation ceremony is scheduled for Monday, March 19, 2024 in Abuja.
This followed the breakthrough the party achieved in resolving the seeming political Jigsaw erected by Hon. Dennis Idahosa, first runner-up in the party’s governorship election election in Benin City.
Idahosa, a member of the House of Representatives, had lost out to Okpebholo. Though, he had challenged the outcome in court, it was reliably gathered that the party leaders have now resolved all issues amicably.
Popularly called DENCO, Idahosa, it was learnt, will now deputize Okpebholo and expected to withdraw all pending cases from court. The decision was reached at a meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the party in Abuja on Sunday midnight.
Idahosa, who has a strong pillar in the former governor of the state, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, is to be unveiled as the party’s governorship running mate to Okpebholo.
Those who attended the meeting include the APC National Chairman, Senator Abdullahi Ganduje; Senator Adams Oshiomhole (Edo North), former Edo governor who is believed to be fronting Idahosa and the party’s now-candidates (Okpebholo and Idahosa).
It was gathered that all former governorship aspirants attended the meeting. Also in attendance were the state executives of the party and some present and past lawmakers and ministers from the state.
The meeting of the entire Edo APC leadership and governorship aspirants was still on at about 2 0’clock this morning at the residence of the party’s national chairman, Ganduje.
