The Lagos State Government has commenced the clean-up of shanties occupied by squatters under the Obalende Bridge in the Eti-Osa local Government Area of the state.

The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a video shared on his X handle on Saturday.

His caption read, “The enforcement team of the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, this morning, resumes the clean-up of the Obalende under-bridge.”

It had earlier been reported on Monday that the state government issued a four-day ultimatum to commercial drivers and squatters under the bridge to vacate their shanties and move any unlawful motor parks to the state’s recognised parks.

Wahab had also stressed that all abandoned vehicles, shanties, and their occupants under the bridge must vacate by Thursday afternoon, as enforcement was to commence on Friday morning.

The videos shared by Wahab revealed the destruction of make-shift shelters, and evacuation of the ruins from the scene.

In a similar development, after a five-day quit notice, the government destroyed and cleared illegal shanties occupied by squatters under the the Ijora Bridge in Lagos and announced its plan to convert the area to a recreational space.
