The zonal working committee of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), South South, has expressed grief at the death of a former Chairman and member of the House of Representatives, Cairo Ojougboh.
This was made known in a statement signed by the South South PDP National Vice-chairman, Chief Dan Osi Orbih on Thursday.
Mr. Ojougboh reportedly died on Wednesday while watching Nigeria Vs South Africa Semi-final match in the ongoing African Cup of Nations (AFCON), holding in Ivory Coast.
He was aged 64 years.
Dr Ojougboh who was the Akinuwa of Agbor kingdom, represented Ika Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and later served as National Vice Chairman South-South of the party before joining the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The statement read thus:
“The news of the sudden demise of Hon. Dr Cairo Ojougboh came to us with a rude shock.
“The entire members of the Zonal Working Committee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, South-South Zone are deeply pained over this sad incident, which has thrown the people of Ika Federal Constituency and indeed, the people of Delta State into a mournful mood.
“Hon. Dr Cairo Ojougboh will be remembered for his role in nation building and his exceptional leadership qualities, especially during his tenure as Chairman of the PDP South-South, Zone.
“While we commiserate with members of his beloved family, the People of Ika Federal Constituency and Delta State, we urge that they take solace knowing that Hon. Dr Cairo Ojougboh left a positive impact in contributing meaningfully to the development of Nigeria.
“We pray that the Almighty God will grant his soul eternal rest.”
