Godwin Emefiele, former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, was charged on Friday at the Federal High Court in Maitama, Abuja, with 20 counts of alleged corruption and forgery.
Dressed in ash-colored pants and a black blazer, the ex-CBN governor appeared at the courthouse with his team of attorneys and a few assistants.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission first charged Emefiele six counts of N1.2 billion procurement charges.
The EFCC later revised the accusations against Emefiele with the court’s approval.
When the amended 20 counts were read to him on Friday, the former CBN governor pleaded not guilty.
Shortly after taking his plea, trial judge Hamza Muazu adjourned the case till February 12 and 13, 2024 for the commencement of trial.
