Residents of Ondo State, on Wednesday, held an eighth-day prayer for the late former governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, at his residence in the Owo Local Government Area of the state.
Revealing the event on his Facebook page on Wednesday, the Chief Press Secretary to the late governor, Richard Olatunde, stated that the prayer was attended by Akeredolu’s family, associates, political followers, and the people of Owo.
He wrote, “The eight-day prayer for the late former Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, was held on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
“The prayer was held at the residence of the late Governor in Owo, his hometown. It was attended by his family, associates, political followers, and the people of Owo.
“The Akeredolu family was represented by Toyin Akeredolu, the younger sister of the late Governor.
“At the prayer service, prayers were offered for the families and followers of the late Akeredolu as well as the state and Owo town. The service was led by Rev. Canon S.B Oladimeji.
“Since his death, an outpouring of tributes from across the country continues, attesting to the purposeful and exemplary life led by Governor Akeredolu.
“The ancient town of Owo is engulfed in melancholy as the people mourn the loss of a great son of the soil, whose love for the town and the state as a whole was unparalleled.”
Metrowatchxtra.com reports that Akeredolu died on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at the age of 67 while undergoing treatment for prostate cancer in a German hospital.
The acting governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was also sworn in as substantive governor on the same day.
