Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police, has sharply denounced the recent violent bank robbery that took place in Otukpo, Benue State, which tragically claimed the lives of both police officers and innocent bystanders.
In a statement he signed on Saturday, Egbetokun stated that the violence is an attack on the values of justice, security, and peace that the Nigeria Police Force and other security forces devote their lives to preserving.
In order to aid in the prompt capture of the perpetrators of the crime, he also directed the deployment of extra operational and investigative assets and resources to Otukpo, the Benue State Police Command, and neighboring states.
The IGP said that the Nigeria Police Force has launched a thorough and coordinated operation to bring the perpetrators of this horrific murder to justice, noting that two suspects were shot and killed by security personnel while trying to flee.
In addition to expressing his sincere sympathies to the families of the victims of the violence, Egbetokun urged the people to maintain composure and assist the police by supplying any information that may help with the investigation and eventual capture of the perpetrators.
