The National Emergency Management Agency has called for the intervention of the Federal Government as floods and increased water levels submerge communities in Adamawa State.

This was disclosed in a statement on the official X handle of NEMA on Saturday.

The statement reads, “Following the downpour on October 6 and the gradual release of water from Lagdo dam in the Cameroon Republic, massive floods and increased water levels have led to the submerging of farmlands and houses.

“So far in Adamawa, riverine communities have been submerged, and the level of damage is yet to be fully assessed as the floods have forced thousands of people from their homes and are currently taking shelter in Limawa Primary School, Gwadabawa Secondary School, Gidan Gona Warehouse in Yola North, and AA Namtari Primary School in Yola South.

“While some of the displaced persons have been living with relatives in the host communities, the situation has subjected the displaced population to a serious humanitarian situation, and they need federal intervention.”
