Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, on Monday dismissed reports that he was engaged in discussions with Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso, presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), respectively, regarding a potential coalition to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for power.

Recently, a report surfaced online suggesting that Atiku, Obi, and Kwankwaso were engaged in discussions about potentially forming a coalition to challenge the APC in the 2027 general elections, assuming a favorable judgement for the ruling party at the Presidential Election Petitions Court (PEPC).

However, speaking at a large rally in Edo State ahead of the September 2, 2023 local government elections in the state, Obi reassured party supporters of his unwavering commitment to the Labour Party.

Addressing the hundreds of party followers, the former Anambra governor dismissed the report and emphasized the Labour Party’s determination to grow stronger and create a better Nigeria.

At the rally, Obi addressed Labour Party candidates participating in the Edo local government elections, urging them to uphold their campaign promises if elected.

He stressed that there was no room for empty promises, emphasizing the nation’s desire for concrete actions rather than false assurances.

Obi received enthusiastic cheers from the crowd as he expressed the Labour Party’s vision of transitioning Nigeria from a consumption-based economy to a production-driven one.
