A pro-democracy group, Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to order the military and police to totally liquidate armed terrorists, armed Fulani herdsmen and kidnappers killing Nigerians in droves and stop the diversionary gambit of plotting to send military troops to Niger Republic to restore civilian democracy.

HURIWA said President Tinubu who is Commander-in-Chief should take full responsibility for security failures in the country and the apparent non-performance of the Service Chiefs and make it mandatory that within a Month, all the killings by terrorists of all genres were stopped or the service chiefs, including the National Security Adviser, would be kicked out.

HURIWA said it was inconceivable and unbelievable that “Nigeria is aflame” with the heightened state of insecurity from all dimensions, including the significant terrorist activities of Armed Islamic terrorists in the North East of Nigeria, armed Fulani terrorist attacks all over the country with major concentration of their deadly attacks in parts of Plateau, Southern Kaduna and Benue State, armed Fulani terrorists who have become kidnappers in most federal highways leading to the South East of Nigeria and armed bandits and terrorists are wiping off different Hausa communities and raping young girls in Zamfara, Katsina and Kaduna State, yet President Tinubu and his security team are wasting taxpayers money and time to debate to and fro the modalities for militarily intervention in Niger Republic.

HURIWA stated that only a President who was shameless would be bothered about the internal affairs of other countries when his own citizens were being wiped off and slaughtered like Christmas goats.

HURIWA recalled that it was yet another nightmarish experience for the residents of Heipang community in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State, as unknown gunmen swooped on the community in the early hours of Thursday, killing no fewer than 17 persons.

The Rights group noted that among those killed in the fresh attack were young men, women and children. It said this new attack comes barely 48 hours after a similar one that led to a protest by some aggrieved Women in the Mangu Council area of Plateau State. Some of the residents of the community while narrating the incident, said the attackers came in the early hours of Thursday while they were sleeping. They added that the efforts of the community vigilante group were not enough to overpower the attackers who had superior firepower against the vigilantes’ dane guns.

Besides, four members of the vigilante group were said to have lost their lives in the gun duel with the attackers, just as the attackers set some houses on fire, burning residents who were asleep and could not escape from the sudden attack.

The Public Relations Officer of the Plateau State Police Command, DSP Alfred Alabo, confirmed the incident, stating that security has been beefed up in the community, while Police were currently on the trail of the attackers.

Reacting, HURIWA through its National Coordinator, Comrade Emmanuel Onwubiko, charged the Commander-in-Chief to face the security issues afflicting Nigeria, stop the killings by terrorists, bandits, Fulani terrorists, arrest and prosecute the mass killers and the sponsors of the selective genocidal killings across Nigeria because basically, the primary duty of government is the protection of lives and property of the citizens.

HURIWA lambasted the Service Chiefs, the Director-General of Department of State Security, the Acting Inspector-General of Police, for their collective and abysmal failures that have permitted the continuous operation of terrorists, including armed hoodlums working for some forces that have been commissioned to destroy South East of Nigeria and were busy killing, maiming citizens of South East and burning housing assets of targeted politicians.
