President Bola Ahmed Tinubu met with the governors of the States that border the Niger Republic at the Presidential Villa on Sunday.

The meeting, which took place at State House in Abuja, was a part of the President’s deliberations on the situation in Niger.

Ahmed Aliyu (Sokoto), Umar Namadi (Jigawa), Mai Malam Buni (Yobe), Idris Nasir (Kebbi), and Dr. Dikko Radda (Katsina) were among the governors present.

Recall that President Tinubu gave the military junta in the Niger Republic a seven-day deadline to transfer back control to Mohammed Bazoum in his role as Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In addition to the deadline, Tinubu imposed further sanctions at the conference last weekend in Abuja, which have caused crossings between Niger and Nigeria to close.

Tinubu had written the leadership of the National Assembly to approve the deployment of military personnel to the troubled Niger but rather got advice to tread carefully in the present circumstances.
