Some residents of Edo State and civil society groups on Monday protested against the hike in price of petrol under the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu led federal government.
The protesters under the aegis of the Edo Civil Society Organisations, early Monday took to the streets of Benin City, the state capital, in protest against the development.
They also rejected the proposed N8,000 palliative by the Federal Government to Nigeria’s poorest households following the removal of the subsidy on petrol.
Carrying placards with several inscriptions, the protesters walked through some major streets and condemned the increase of pump price and the high cost of governance in Nigeria.
Recall that Tinubu had during his inauguration as Nigeria’s President on May 29 announced the removal of fuel subsidy which recently saw the hike in price to over N600 per litre.
In the wake of the development, the Federal Government proposed an N8,000 palliative for poorest Nigerians but later said it would review it after a wave of backlash.
