Should Real Madrid not be successful in acquiring longstanding target Kylian Mbappe this summer, they may turn to Super Eagles attacker Victor Osimhen as a backup option.
Before deciding to dedicate his career to PSG two years ago, the French striker was just about to sign with Real Madrid.
However, because his contract is slated to expire the next year, the 13-time European Champions are once more keeping an eye on him.
The club chairman, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, had ordered Mbappe to sign a contract renewal or risk being sold this summer, despite the player apparently insisting he has no desire to leave PSG.
Mbappe is the player Madrid wants most, but his high transfer cost and the presence of rivals like Liverpool might make that difficult.
If the Los Blancos are unable to get Mbappe, Madrid manager Carlo Ancelloti believes Osimhen would make an excellent backup.
“While the club prepares the scenery to present a footballer unknown to the vast majority until recently, Ancelotti is still waiting for Florentino, José Ángel Sánchez and Juni to attend to his requests without dribbles and, if Mbappé does not come, they will bring him a striker top now that it has been shown, no matter how much they say, that the market door is never closed.’’
If it is not Osimhen, his favorite within plan B, that at least resembles it.”
The Nigeria international helped the Partenopei win their first Serie A title in 33 years, and emerged the leading scorer in Italy’s topflight with 26 goals in 32 games in 2022/23.
