The recent decree that lowered the number of working days for state government employees who are civil servants from five to three days has been overturned by the Kwara State Government.

After the Federal government removed the fuel subsidy last month, the government issued the previous decree.

The state government reduced the working days from five to three on June 5, 2023, according to a letter from Mrs. Susan Modupe Oluwole’s office, according to metrowatchxtra.com, in an effort to lessen the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy on the state’s civil servants.

The instruction to enable the federal government and organized labor to work out modalities for more effective interventions to mitigate the effect of the subsidy removal was overturned by the Head of Service in a letter to the Heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, or MDAs, in the state on June 26.

The letter promised a prompt announcement of the government’s participation.

“For this reason, it has become imperative to revert to the former state of affairs, where civil servants observe five working days pending when a position is reached by the government and the labour.

“I am therefore directed to inform all Heads of Ministries, Department and Agencies, MDAs, that the reduced number of working days has been reversed, hence, all categories of workers are to observe the normal five working days per week, with effect from July 10, 2023.

“Workers not covered in the initial workday reduction, which lasted a few days, will have stipends given to them as a show of appreciation,” the letter stated.
