The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has insisted that the commission’s Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines deployed for the 2023 general elections did not fail.
INEC’s National Commissioner on Voter Education, Barr Festus Okoye, stated this on when he appeared on Channels Television’s ‘politics today’ programme, monitored by METROWATCHXTRA.COM.
He explained that while upload for the National Assembly election results which held same day with the Presidential election, only results of that of the latter failed to upload on the BVAS.
The INEC spokesman was asked by the TV presenter, Seun Okin if the technical glitch INEC claimed was recorded was human or machine error, despite the tax-payers money spent on the said machines.
“Millions of naira, Nigeria’s tax payers money, was set aside for this election and INEC said there was a technical glitch. Tell Nigerians, was this technical glitch a human or machine error?,” Okin asked.
Responding, Okoye said it is not true that BVAS failed, explaining that the machine has three components — voters registration, voters accreditation and results upload — all of which he said worked.
“All worked successfully except results upload of the Presidential Election so there was no failure. You can buy a vehicle today and it develops a fault same day,” the INEC’s spokesperson explained.
