Following their failed attempt to secure the Presidency of the 10th Senate, former Governor of Abia State and Senator Representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Kalu and two senators have been planting negative reports in the media in their desperate attempt for juicy committee positions.
These desperate Senators who openly went against the position of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the choice Senator Godswill Akpabio, are doing everything to portray the party in bad light.
For instance, in a fake news publication, they alleged that no fewer than 22 APC senators were planning to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
But speaking during a telephone chat, a top APC Senator who pleaded to remain anonymous, said: “That is to show you the level of desperation being displayed by Kalu. That article was sponsored by Kalu and a few desperate senators who want to have their cake and eat it. It’s basically a desperate negotiation tactics in a bid to hustle for good committees. But I am assuring you that it’s is dead on arrival and an empty threat.
“That the current leadership of the senate does not take them seriously and rather looks forward to their decamping, so that their seats be instantly declared vacant and a bye election scheduled in their senatorial districts immediately. It will be interesting to watch them try and win their seats after defying the President.”
Akpabio had emerged the 10th President of the Senate after defeating Yari. Akpabio, a former Senator Minority Leader had polled 63 votes to defeat Yari, a former governor of Zamfara, who scored 46 votes.
Prior to the election, some APC leaders had warned against voting Yari and Kalu because of their corrupt tendencies.
For instance, a chieftain of the APC in Anambra state, Engr. Aniefuna Ugochukwu, had asked Nigerians to reject Kalu.
Ugochukwu had said the former Abia Governor was unfit to occupy the number one seat at the Red Chamber of the National Assembly because of his selfish brand of politics.
He had said: “Orji Uzor Kalu has been in politics for 20 years, yet he has not impacted positively on the lives of his immediate constituency, Abia state, the South East, and Nigeria at large.”
