Member representing Surulere 1 Federal Constituency of Lagos State, Femi Gbajabiamila, has resigned from the House of Representatives.

Gbajabiamila, who is the immediate-past Speaker of the Lower Legislative Chamber, made his decision known at plenary on Wednesday.

He said he is stepping down as to be able to focus on the task of serving as the Chief of Staff to the President.

Recall that the lawmaker who was only yesterday inaugurated alongside his colleagues and had voted as well for the leadership of the House, was recently appointed as Chief of Staff by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

With this latest development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to conduct a fresh election for the Gbajabiamila’s Surulere 1 Federal Constituency in the coming days.
