The Department of State Services (DSS) has officially confirmed the arrest of the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele.

News broke out on Friday that Emefiele was arrested by DSS shortly after he was suspended from office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

But on Saturday, the Secret Police, on its official Twitter handle, said Emefiele was not in its custody.

However, DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, has now confirmed the arrest of Emefiele, noting that the suspended CBN governor is now in custody of the secret police.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby confirms that Mr Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is now in its custody for some investigative reasons,” Afunanya said.

Afunanya enjoined the public, particularly the Media, to apply “utmost caution” in the reportage and narratives concerning the development.
