Police arrest tenant for beating landlady over electricity bill | METROWATCH

The Lagos State Police Command has charged one Usman Hammed for beating his landlady, Josephine Durodola, at her apartment at No 25, Olaniyi Street, Agiliti, in the Mile 12 area of the state.

On Thursday, the defendant was charged with assault before Magistrate M.O. Tanimola.

Inspector Donjor Perezi, the prosecution, told the court that the defendant committed the crime on April 8, 2023, at about 9 p.m., at No 25, Olaniyi Street, Agiliti, in the Mile 12 district of the state.

According to Perezi, the defendant beat his landlord when she requested money from him to pay his power bill.

According to him, the defendant struck the complainant in the head with an iron gate, causing her to be hospitalized.

The prosecutor further stated that the offense violated Section 173 of the Lagos State Criminal Law of Nigeria, 2015.

The Magistrate, Tanimola, therefore granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till May 16, 2023, for mention.
