Ahead of Bola Tinubu’s inauguration, President Muhammadu Buhari will reveal the national and regimental colors for the newly formed and operationalized formations of the Nigerian Army.
At a Tuesday media briefing, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, director of Army Public Relations, made the news.
Prior to the President-elect’s inauguration on May 29, Nwachukwu spoke during the Trooping and Presentation of Colors Parade in Abuja.
The spokesperson for the Army remembered that the last parade allowing the units to display their colors was held in 2007.
Since then, more units have been created and made operational in accordance with the army’s expanding operational commitments and the requirements of the current Order of Battle (ORBAT).
The director claimed that the Army’s colors had seen extensive usage in several actions in other geographical regions and other nations, therefore new ones deserved to be introduced.
“In line with the traditions, customs and ethics of the Nigerian Army, trooping and presentation of colours parade 2023 will be conducted to retire torn or worn out colours.
“A total of 81 units will, therefore, be participating in the parade; 53 colours will be due for retirement, while 28 will be presented to new units”, he added.
