Femi Falana, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), has requested that the police investigate Aisha Dahiru, also known as Binani, who is the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for governor of Adamawa State.

Falana asserted that Binani’s acceptance speech proved that she had participated in the unlawful statement, calling it a “charade” and describing it as such.

The comment was made by the legal expert on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily show on Thursday while answering questions.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner, Barrister Hudu Yunusa, startled the country by usurping the Returning Officer’s authority to proclaim Binani the winner of the State guber election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, or INEC, promptly refuted the REC’s alleged pronouncement that Binani had won the poll in Adamawa.

The Commission insisted that the REC’s decision was unlawful and had no legal standing since it usurped the Returning Officer’s authority.

Falana said that she needs to be taken in by the police for an investigation.

He said, ”With respect to the acceptance speech, the acceptance speech already confirmed that she was party to the charade. She has to be brought in by the police and investigated. How did you prepare a speech if you did not know that you were going to be declared the winner because, at that stage, the coalition had not been concluded?

“The last point is the role of NTA, the NTA televised the acceptance speech. I expect the NBC to move in speedily and sanction the NTA because, at that time, collation was still ongoing.”
