A fire outbreak on Tuesday razed down the postgraduate female students’ hostel of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), located in the Ekehuan Campus II.
METROWATCHXTRA.COM learned that the fire incident started late Tuesday afternoon.
However, the cause of the incident could not be immediately ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
It was gathered that University properties and personal effects belonging to the postgraduate students worth thousands may have been destroyed in the incident.
In a video seen by this Reporter, some students were seen lamenting at the background, while men of the state Fire Service Division appeared hapless.
As at the time of filing this report, the University Management was yet to react to the development. Spokesperson for the institution, Mrs Benedicta Ehanire, could not be reached for comment.
In August 2021, some staff of the University of Benin narrowly escaped death when an office complex at the main auditorium of the institution, was gutted by fire.
