The Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, on Wednesday, won the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) primary election to emerge the party’s candidate for the November 11, 2023 off-cycle governorship election in Bayelsa State.

METROWATCH reports that Diri, who was the sole-candidate in the primary, garnered 305 ‘Yes Votes’ from the party’s delegates drawn across the eight Local Government Areas in the state to emerge the party’s standard bearer.

The exercise held in Yenogoa, the state capital, was conducted by the Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke led Bayelsa State Gubernatorial Election Primary Committee.

Speaking on Diri’s emergence, Governor Adeleke urged the people of Bayelsa State to rally round the PDP during the forthcoming governorship poll.

Elated, Diri pledged to lead the PDP to victory during the poll, noting that Bayelsa state is totally a PDP state from the results of the recently concluded presidential and National Assembly elections.
