An early morning fire outbreak on Tuesday destroyed some goods in a section of the popular Balogun market, located in the Lagos Island.

It was gathered that the fire affected a part of a five-storey building housing a mini-mart and others in the market.

An aide to the State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on media, Mr. Jubril Gawat, confirmed the development in a tweet on Tuesday.

Gawat who failed to disclose the cause of the fire, however, added that officials of the state fire service are on the ground to contain the fire.

“Two divisions of our Lagos Fire Service are on ground already,” he tweeted.

Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, who also confirmed the development, told newsmen that the situation had been brought under control.

”The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently attending to a Fire outbreak at the famous Balogun Market which involved the topmost floor of a five storey building.

“The Fire is however under control as mitigation are on to limits it spread,” she added.

metrowatchxtra.com reports that goods worth millions of naira were sometime this year destroyed when an early morning fire gutted parts of a three-storey building in the Balogun market.
