Some food vendors on Saturday in Lagos took advantage of the Governorship and State Assembly Elections to make brisk businesses.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the vendors sold their food near polling Unit 021, Ohafia Junction, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area.

As at 8.34 a.m., the vendors had started selling assorted foods including ‘ofada’ rice, jollof rice and beverages.

At that time, staff  of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had  arrived at the polling unit and were erecting their stand.

NAN reports that some voters had also come out to exercise their franchise. Few security personnel were also seen.

Some voters and other residents of the area were patronising the food vendors while waiting to cast their votes.

A businessman, who identified himself simply as Chidozie, told NAN that the turnout of voters was still  poor, and expressed the hope that more voters would turn out.

He also expressed worry at the presence of only few security operatives.

According to him, presence of security operatives will encourage more voters to turn out.

“In the Feb. 25 elections, we had many army and police men but now we have only few policemen,” he said.

A woman who pleaded anonymity also hoped that the turnout would be large at the end of the day.
