Obaseki Overrules AAU, Orders Management to Reinstate ‘Sacked’ Workers

The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has directed the management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, to reverse and retrieve all recent illegal disengagement letters issued to staff of the institution.

A list of 22 workers purportedly disengaged by the Edo state-owned university surfaced online on Tuesday.

The letter was circulated alongside a letter of disengagement addressed to one Jude Obasanmi of the Department of Economics in the institution.

But, the state government has dismissed the sack of the university workers which it termed illegal, while calling for investigation as the decision was not sanctioned by the governor.

In a statement by Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Mr. Crusoe Osagie, Obaseki insisted that the sack notices said to have been issued earlier to some staff of the university are illegal, null and void.

“The management is to retrieve any such illegal letters if they were ever issued and reinstate the affected staff,” Mr. Osagie said.

He said the Governor has ordered an in-depth investigation into what led to the sporadic issuance of illegal sack letters, while assuring that anyone found culpable will be brought to book.

“The government reiterates its commitment to the welfare of staff and is working to address all lingering issues affecting workers at the state-owned institution,” the statement added.
