The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is allegedly being saved by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, according to Bashir, the son of Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State.
Bashir revealed that Wike may be the chosen messiah who will restore the PDP’s former splendor.
Since he lost the PDP’s presidential nomination, Wike and the party’s leadership have been at odds.
Wike had turned down the PDP’s flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, after he had lost the party’s primary.
In addition, Wike and his G-5 governors had demanded that PDP National Chairman Iyorchia Ayu quit.
The governors advised Ayu to step down and let a person from the south take over as party head.
They pointed out that the PDP’s national chairman and presidential candidate cannot be produced in the North.
Wike had cut ties with Atiku during the recently ended presidential election as a result of the conflict.
However, Bashir tweeted: “Wike could turn out to be the anointed messiah that will revive the PDP’s lost glory.
“He stood by his principles & for the sake of the health of our democracy, the opposition should be robust. I truly wish him & his team of patriots well.”
