Bola Tinubu, the president-elect, arrived in Lagos on Sunday and was greeted by a large gathering of fans and party members when his private plane landed at the Presidential wing of Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja.

The news comes only five days after the former Lagos State governor was declared the winner of the controversial presidential election conducted on February 25.

Tinubu received 8,794,726 votes, defeating his closest challengers, PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, who received 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes, respectively.

Tinubu was received at the airport by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde; former Lagos Deputy Governor, Femi Pedro;  Senator Musiliu Obanikoro; former Commissioner for Environment in Lagos, Muiz Banire, and Woman Leader in the state, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas.

This was revealed in a statement published on Sunday by Tunde Rahman, the president-communications elect’s adviser.

Rahman reported that immediately after his arrival, the delegation went to the Iga-Iduganran palace of Lagos’ Oba, Rilwanu Akiolu, where the king and traditional white cap chiefs awaited him.

TInubu, speaking to a small audience assembled inside the palace, told Nigerians that he would not let them down.

According to him, he would work assiduously for Nigeria from the get-go and would not disappoint the people.

Although thanking God and the people for his final win, he compared the primaries and election to a tough and unpredictable World Cup campaign.

In response to his arrival, Akiolu hailed the president-elect as a particular breed “destined for leadership at the very top.”

Oba Saheed Elegushi, the king of Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, and Oba Omogbolahan Lawal, the Oniru of Iruland, were also there.
