Kelvin Chukwu, younger brother of the late Oyibo Chukwu, who was killed in Enugu State, has been elected as the new Labour Party (LP) candidate for Enugu East senatorial district.

Chukwu was brutally murdered and set ablaze at Amechi Awkunanaw in Enugu South Local Government Area alongside his five supporters on February 23 after gunmen opened fire on his convoy.

Following the unfortunate incident, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had announced the suspension of the election, to allow the party nominate a replacement.

In a fresh party primary election conducted on Sunday, Chukwu secured 223 votes to defeat his rivals: Uchenna Ogbodo, Chinedu Nneji and Christian Onyeni.

Speaking on the outcome, Chukwu who said the family is yet to recover from how Oyibo was gruesomely murdered, however, promised to fulfil the dreams of his late brother and make the people of Enugu East proud.
