The Obi effect: Labour Party dethrones Elumelu from Reps’ seat in Delta

Fourth term lawmaker and minority leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Ndudi Elumelu has lost his seat to the Labour Party (LP) in Delta State.

Elumelu currently represents the people of Aniocha/Oshimili Federal constituency at the green chamber, under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawmaker was seeking to return to the National Assembly for a fifth term until his defeat last Saturday.

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday, declared Ngozi Okolie of the LP as the winner of the election.

The LP’s candidate polled 53,879 votes to dethrone PDP’s Elumelu, who scored 33,456 votes cast in the election.

Elumelu was during the 2023 electioneering campaigns prevented from campaigning in a community in Deltaa by angry youths over alleged failure to address community challenges as a lawmaker over the years.

They said the politician only make fake political promises. It took the effort of the PDP senatorial candidate (now Senator-elect), Ned Nwoko, after hours to calm the nerves of unrepentant youths.

The youths who reluctantly listened to Nwoko lamented the difficulties the community had faced over the years, despite having Elumelu in the National Assembly since 1999.
