Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue state has lost his bid to represent the Benue North West Senatorial District in the National Assembly.

Ortom who contested under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the election, lost to Mr. Titus Zam of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Benue governor is part of a five-member group of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) — G-5 governors — who are at loggerheads with the national leadership of the party.

Other members of the PDP G-5 who equally lost their senatorial bids are Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State. While Nyesom Wike of Rivers State is currently completing his second tenure, his Oyo State counterpart, Seyi Makinde is seeking re-election in the forthcoming March 11 governorship election.

Ortom had earlier openly endorsed presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Peter Obi, saying he was ready to lose his senatorial bid to ensure Obi wins the presidential election.
