Elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo on Monday said the victory of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Lagos state during the ongoing presidential election did not come to him as a surprise.

Obi polled 582,454 while Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 572,606 votes. The Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar, came third with 75,750 votes.

Speaking in an interview with DAILY INDEPENDENT, Adebanjo who declared support for Obi ahead of the election said the results proved that the youths are now ready to take back their country.

According to him, Tinubu has always won the election for APC in Lagos through bribery, corruption and use of thugs.

“Obi’s victory in Lagos in the presidential election is the wish of the people. Tinubu has always won in Lagos by thuggery, bribery and corruption. But the youths are awake now”.

That’s why they are attacking the Igbos so as to make it look like it is a Yoruba affair”.

“Although it is a miracle for us to win in Lagos with all the violence because all the Obas are campaigning against us. The message all over the country is that the youths are now awake to take back their country” Adebanjo said.
