The leadership of the youth wing of the People’s Democratic party (PDP) has thrown its weight behind the Naira redesign policy of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Federal Government.
National Youth Leader of the Party, Prince Muhammed Kadade Suleiman, who made the Party’s position known in Asaba, the Delta State capital, expressed confidence that the policy would not only help in entrenching free, fair and credible election, but that in the long run, help in strengthening the nation’s economy.
Rising from a one-day town hall meeting for Students and Youths in South-South region, Monday evening in Asaba, Suleiman who spoke through the Deputy National Youth Leader, Hon. Timothy Osadolor has asked Nigerians to resist any attempt by individuals or groups aimed at scuttling the CBN’s Naira redesign policy.
While describing the policy as one of the best policies in the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, Suleiman warns that should anything untoward happens to either the president, Muhammadu Buhari or the Central Bank Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, Nigerians should hold the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdulahi Adamu and the formal Governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole responsible.
He said, “our position as youths is that this ongoing Naira redesign policy of the CBN is indeed commendable. This is one of the best policies from the stable of Mr. President. Our country is not for sale.
“It gets me thinking when some persons, particularly the leadership of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC are crying fowl over the Naira redesign policy.
“Anybody who is banking on the strength of his or her starked currency in bullion vans to buy the conscience of voters, particularly the youths should have a rethink because, Nigerians are now wiser.
“It is on the strength of this that we warn Nigerians, particularly the leadership of APC that nothing untoward must happen to either the president, Muhammadu Buhari or the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele in relation to the ongoing Naira redesign policy”.
Meanwhile, in his key note address at the event that was largely attended by youths and students across the various academic institutions in the State, the Deputy Director, Student Mobilisation (South) PDP National Youth Campaign Council/Presidential Campaign Council, Comrade Engr. Jerry Ehiwarior expressed confidence that given the antecedents of the PDP Presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his vice, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, Nigerian youths and Students alike, would vote massively for the PDP in Saturday’s presidential election.
Ehiwarior who is also the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Student Affairs, is confident that the perceived victory of the Party’s flagbearers at the polls on Saturday would help in revamping the nation’s economy and, particularly, revitalise the nation’s education sector.
The Governor’s aide while bemoaning what he described as the untold hardship being inflicted on Nigerians by the APC led administration, enjoined Nigerians to vote massively for the PDP in the forthcoming general elections in order to “Rescue and recover the country from the grips of maladministration”.
The meeting, our correspondent reports, was attended by members of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) as well as members of the Civil Society Group.
