Dr Bulama Geidam, abducted about 11 months ago has been freed by insurgents suspected to be of the Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) faction.
Geidam abducted March 18, 2022, after a clandestine infiltration of his home in Gubio by the insurgents had been used like some other medical captives to take care of the wounded insurgents in the last 11 months.
Several efforts made to secure the release of the abducted medical doctor before now was futile because most medical staff kidnapped are hardly allowed to return to their families due to the high valued premium placed on them by the insurgents.
According to an impeccable source in the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Borno branch explains why Geidam a general practitioner spent so much time in the heart of the Lake Chad region where the insurgents are pinned down sometimes underground.
The (NMA) source however told this reporter that Geidam was released Saturday in Gubio not far from the state capital Maiduguri and has since been undergoing standard profiling by the intelligence services before he will be reunited with his family after thorough medical check up.
Meanwhile the medical community and partners are in high spirits as one of their own has been returned to them safe and sound without paying the Supreme sacrifice like others who perished in the savanna.
This reporter recalls that because of the services medical personnel offer, both factions of the insurgents hardly kill them instantly, rather they are married off to their commanders if they are female and treated with care if they are men who could take care of the endless pregnancies in their camps. .
