The Edo State Government has urged club owners, event centre managers and other operators of facilities with high noise levels in the state to soundproof their buildings and facilities before March 31, 2023.

The Edo State Commissioner for Physical Planning, Housing, Urban and Regional Development, Mrs. Isoken Omo, made the appeal in a statement, noting that officials of the Ministry are available to provide support for anyone yet to comply with the directive.

The state government had met with owners of hotels, clubs, lounges, bars, event centres and other public facilities last year during a stakeholders’ engagement session to agree on the modalities for soundproofing buildings with high noise levels.

The initial deadline granted had expired in December, but the government had extended the grace period by three months and embarked on an extensive sensitisation campaign to remind the stakeholders and distribute guidelines on the noise control policy.

According to her, “Having granted the extension requested by the stakeholders, we have extended the time of compliance by three additional months to March 31, 2023. Guideline booklets have been produced and given to them. The booklets can be collected from our offices. Anyone requiring assistance should call us.”

“Edo people affected are encouraged to comply so the State will be a better place to live, work and play,” she added.

The Commissioner noted that the government is also ensuring that all necessary requirements needed to ensure that public facilities are safe for the public are fitted in the facilities to protect the people.
