Zulum Presents 2023 Budget, Proposes 2 New Flyover Bridges for Maiduguri

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has said that two new fly over bridges would be built from the 2023 budget.

The Governor said that both Kano road junction and western round about area of Maiduguri will each have a fly over to ease traffic flow which used to cause a lot of accidents at the T-junctions.

 

Presenting an appropriation bill of over N234billion for 2023 fiscal year, to the state House of Assembly Wednesday, the Governor said that the 2023 budget will  be utilized to ease the traffic and enhance security in the metropolis.

 

He said that two bypasses would be built from “Kano road to Gamboru road” while Muna garage’s axis would equally have a bypass crossing to the jam-packed Baga road leading to Tungushe and Baga.

The Governor revealed that the Maiduguri/Bama road will be completed in 2023 to ensure easy flow of traffic between the city centre, Konduga and Bama which is vital in opening up the freed areas.

 

The Governor apologized to farmers in the state stressing that fertilizers could not be supplied in the 2022 fiscal year due to the ban of fertilizer sale on insurgency affected areas in North Eastern Nigeria because the terrorists use same for the creation of improvised explosive devices (IED) against innocent civilians.

 

On education, Zulum said that N28 billion has been set aside for capital projects of the sector adding that more teachers would be recruited to match 10 new schools that would be built.

The Governor said that the Borno state university teaching hospital BSUTH will be completed during the 2023 fiscal year.

 

Responding on the receipt of the bill, the speaker of the House, Abdulkareem Lawan, said that he was happy that a large chunk of the 2022 budget has been justified by way of execution adding that the projects executed so far has touched on the lives of the people.

 

He called on the executive to do what it can to bring life and proper security to Nganze council areas and its surrounding which he insists needs special attention to bring it to its previous state of sanity.
