Freedom is to be independent, as Nigeria got it from her British colonizers on October 1, 1960. Freedom denotes the liberty to do things in your own way as the country has been doing without recourse to London. And we celebrate it because freedom has no comparison when viewed against it’s opposite of being in prison, in incarceration and in limited permission to do things that you should ordinarily be doing without hindrance, let or lose.
But come to think about it, are we really free as a people seeing the evil that has bedeviled us as a nation since we gained the said Independence from the British? Your answer is as good as my own. Human freedom is limited. Only God’s freedom bis truly Freedom. Seek it out,!
Yes, that is why we must seek for a deeper meaning of what True Freedom is?
The kind of freedom that makes it impossible to live according to the dictates of another force or power operating outside of you. And always stronger than you. Which , even if you would want to oppose, resist or contend with, are completely unable.

Any disobedience that brings him or her into ridicule, self abuse or rejection or debasement or complete loss of faith in life and in God. Any man or woman whose life , drive and purpose is determined by expectations which are ethereal, without eternal purpose cannot claim to be in freedom, yes, True Freedom. Jesus says :
” If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed”.
The freedom that Jesus gives will refocus you, redirect you and point you to heaven where your Master is seated. Colossians 3:1. It is only this Freedom that comes from the Master : Who is the Way,the Truth and the Life , that can be True Freedom. Those who claim to be free because their country has got the right to do things the way she wants but are deep in corruption, banditry, violence, bigotry, wickedness and all manners of ungodliness are not free.
Such people are living under an influence that is bigger, stronger and more dominating than they are. . There can’t be independence for such people, no matter how many years and times they celebrate independence within their country, as we do. True Freedom is very far from such persons. How TRUE is your freedom?
Consider a man who is given to drugs. He may be enjoying Independence as a citizen of Nigeria. Indeed, such a one is independent by reason of being a Nigerian liberated from the evil powers of colonialism. But is such a person truly free? No.
Consider people addicted to alcohol. They sleep and wake up looking for the bottle. Even when they are aware of the dangers of alcoholism, they still look for the bottle. Such people could be rejoicing that their country is independent. They could be enjoying it too because they are not in jail or have their liberty abridged by the law of the land. Yet, it is clear that they are enslaved to the bottle. They are certainly not free. Are you ?
I had encountered a lady who told me that she can’t do without sex everyday, even though she was not married, and was not a prostitute? because she was a student then. She is not alone in this enslavement. This explains why such people are constantly trapped in sexual immorality. Even when they are married, they still look out there for strange laps and bossom of sinner – comforters. Do you describe these ones as enjoying freedom or independence? Certainly not.
When a man is entrapped in the power game, the money game and influencer/ fame game, doing all manner of shenanigans, chicanery , subterfuge, corruption, dishonest and other sinful ends, such a one needs to find True Freedom. I have encountered a highly politically exposed man who confessed to have carried POWER too far because he was under constant fear that somebody was after him. Many people in positions of power and authority are not different from the man in reference. They are under spell to do wickedness to remain where they are. Think of our country and the quest by politicians to gain power. These men need true Freedom which only Jesus can give.
Even men in cassock who prize money ahead of the Salvation of souls may have to reexamine their soul to know if they are still in the faith. Yes such men , no matter their titles are enslaved by Mammon– The god of this world. They are in need of deliverance from their enslavement and love for greedy lucre. Such men are yet to attain true Freedom in Jesus Christ. The earlier they realize it, the better for them since God’s judgement will begin from the brotherhood.
Those in business, industry and commerce who are also operating under the influence or control from other SOURCES are not free, hence they lie, cheat and play pranks with product quality and quantity. They pursue growth in figures and profits and enhancement of prestige with so many negative liabilities and tendencies. How about you?
It doesn’t matter what you are doing. Every enterprise or occupation or profession you are engaged without the fear of God makes you a slave to SIN and DISGRACE and UNGODLINESS. You are far from True Freedom. The flesh is your God. Repent!
Jesus calls us thus:
Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you , and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart , and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:27-30.
It is a man’s response to this invite above that will determine his True Freedom. Yes, This is the TESTIMONY of Scripture by Paul:
Wherefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away; behold , all things are become new.
2 Corinthians 5:17.
Until a man or woman gets this experience, they cannot attain True Freedom which only Jesus can give . He purchased it for the liberty of the world of SIN, SATAN and SELF when He died on the Cross of Calvary. Have you made peace with this reality by acknowledging Him as your LORD and SAVIOR today?
The choice is indeed yours . But until a man does so , he will continue to wallow in debauchery, licentiousness, greed, covetousness, corruption, evil concupiscence, sexual immortality, adultery and fornication as well as malice, hatred, jealousy, wickedness, anger, pride and everything and all things that are contrary to God’s eternal purpose for humankind. I urge you to come and stand on the liberty, wherein Jesus’ has paid for. God bless. Happy Sunday.
