Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu has confirmed Senator Kashim Shettima as his running mate in the 2023 elections.
Tinubu, a former Governor of Lagos State, made the announcement while addressing journalists on Sunday in Katsina.
metrowatchxtra had reported that Tinubu was in Daura, President Muhammadu Buhari’s hometown over choice of his running mate.
Tinubu formally informed Buhari, who is the leader of the ruling party, that he had picked Shettima to run with him in the next year’s general elections.
Shettima played a lead role in the presidential primaries campaign of Tinubu which led to the eventual emergence of the ex-Lagos governor as the ruling party’s standard bearer.
He is the current Senator representing Borno Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, and a two-term Governor of Borno State.
With the latest development, the APC will be flying a Muslim-Muslim ticket in the 2023 presidential election as both Tinubu and Shettima are Muslims.
