All Progressives Congress (APC) senator representing Oyo North, Fatai Buhari has defeated a member of the House of Representatives, Shina Peller, to clinch the senatorial ticket for another term.
Buhari scored 570 votes against Peller’s five votes, ending the 46-year-old lawmaker’s four-year reign at the National Assembly.
Peller was elected to the National Assembly in 2019 and declined to seek a second term in order to stay true to an agreement to rotate the seat in his constituency.
According to reports, the lawmaker’s supporters said he would have easily clinched the ticket to return to the House, but Peller argued that he couldn’t afford to go back on his words.
