Barely two weeks after the death of Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, another prominent traditional ruler in Oyo state, Oba Dr Elijah Olaniyi Popoola, the Oniijeru of Ijeru Kingdom in Ogbomoso South Local Government, is dead.
According to reports, Oba Elijah, aged 85, died peacefully in his sleep on Friday morning after a brief illness.
He became king in 2008.
Confirming the development, one of his son, Moshood, told newsmen that “though he has been ill for a while, he woke up this morning and we spoke. Few minutes after i left his palace for my house, i was called that Baba has joined the his ancestors.
”Though it is painful, who are we to querry God, who give and take at will, May God grant him eternal rest,” he added.
