Lagos 2023: Sanwo-Olu’s Endorsement by GAC doesn’t Stop Other Aspirants, says APC

The Lagos state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday said Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s endorsement by the Governance Advisory Council (GAC) does not stop other aspirants who want to run for the governorship election in Lagos on the platform of the APC from picking nomination forms.

Honourable Seye Oladejo, the party’s Publicity Secretary in a chat with DAILY INDEPENDENT said other aspirants in the party who are interested in contesting the governorship election in Lagos and are seeking the party’s platform will not be denied the opportunity as long as they fulfil all the constitutional and party requirements.

Speaking further, he said the GAC is not the party itself but just an advisory body of seasoned and experienced leaders who play a significant role in what goes on in the Lagos APC family.

“Very far from it. Let me also clarify that the GAC role is basically advisory. It is advisory to the extent that party leaders and followers in the progressive camp take that very seriously because they have a whole lot of experience, talking about politicking and governance in Lagos State.

“When you talk about the calibre of people in the GAC, they represent some of the best leaders and politicians you can think of in the annals of the history of the state. What they said was that they were not averse to Governor Sanwo-Olu running for another term in office, which I can say is a positive referendum on his performance in office in the last four years.

“Their approval however does not foreclose the interest of any other person that wants to aspire for the office on APC platform, except that it may look as if the person will be swimming against the tide looking at the calibre of people and the platform where the governor’s endorsement is coming from.

“This is democracy and the GAC is not the party but it plays a very big role in deciding what goes on in the state in the APC family.”
