Police in Anambra State have charged seven persons for stripping a widow in Aguleri, Anambra East Local Government Area of Anambra State. The widow was accused of killing her husband by committing adultery on her matrimonial bed.

The accused have been remanded in prison custody, as the Anambra State Police Command continues manhunt for other suspects involved in the dastardly act.

Disclosing this to journalists during a courtesy visit by the Ultimate Business Women an Farmers Association of Nigeria in Awka on Thursday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Echeng Echeng, insisted that those involved in the act must be made to face the full wrath of the law. He harped on the need to protect the dignity of womanhood.

Earlier in her address, the National President of the Association, Hon Nkiru Nwagbo, urged the command to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book.

While commending the CP for the way the Command protected the dignity and respect for womanhood during the episode against the widow, she noted that Association was thrilled.

She expressed confidence that the command will bring those that masterminded the wicked act to book to serve as a deterrent to those whose stock in trade is the brutality against women.

Nwagbo also extended the association’s willingness to partner the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), saying that the partnership would go a long way in empowering the women in the area.

She said: “As the year’s mother’s day is being celebrated, we have plans to empower at least two women in each of the 21 local government areas of the state and to work with POWA in this regard. To achieve this, we have been interfacing with faith-based organisations and charitable associations who have indicated interest in working with us.

“Sir, it would not be out of place in view of your fatherly position in the state to accord you the respect of being one of the fathers of the association and if granted, a date would be fixed for your investiture.

“Finally this body would not fail in extending our modest assistance to the command in the area that you so desire as long as it would help in the protection of lives and property in the state.”
