The House of Representatives on Wednesday turned down the report of its Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream) which probed the importation of adulterated fuel into the country for failing to do a thorough job.

The House took the decision during the consideration of the report at the Committee of the Whole presided over by the Deputy Speaker of the House, Idris Wase.

A member of the committee, Alex Egbona had presented the report on behalf of the Chairman of the Committee, Abdullahi Gaya, for consideration.

But during consideration of the report’s recommendations, Deputy Minority Leader, Toby Okechukwu said, “I have not seen in the recommendations what should happen to the companies that imported the products. They should tell us the entire gamut of their investigation; we want to solve the problem and not look to gloss over it. The recommendations don’t speak about that.”

On his part, Rep Ajibola Muraino said he was surprised that the terms of reference the House gave to them were not reflected and addressed in the recommendations.

“These should have been addressed so that we can move into the future with hope that this problem won’t occur again,” he said.

Rep Lynda Ikpeazu in her contribution said: “I’m not sure they dealt with their mandate very well. They need to do more in-depth work on it.”

Deputy Speaker Idris Wase while ruling on the matter said there was the need for the committee to go back and redo the work.

“When this motion was considered, I was the one presiding, it’s only fair we reflect the truth. Go and do in-depth investigation and come back with a recommendation Nigerians will be happy with,” he said.
