The Borno State chapter of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) on Wednesday have commended Governor Babagana Zulum for for creating a conducive atmosphere for them to work.
They listed eight important things which Governor Babagana Zulum, was able to actualize for them which includes their long desires for welfare upgrade.
In a release, chairman NMA in Borno State, Dr Ali Ramat, stated that “The NMA Borno State branch is saying thank you for: Approving 100% consolidated medical salary scale (CONMESS) for our members in the state.
“Approving and paying medical residency training funds to all resident doctors of Borno State origin, irrespective of their places of practice, to motivate them in their various fields of specialization as well as approving and paying MRTF to all resident doctors in the state, including clearance of backlog of arrears.
“Ensuring accreditation for MRTP in major clinical departments at the State Specialist Hospital.
“The advanced level of work in our brand new State Teaching Hospital. This is a thing of great joy to all lovers of Borno State.
“The recently approved upward review of retirement age to 65 years for all health workers in the state so as to stem the negative effects of brain drain.”
The icing on the cake according to the doctors was the recently commissioned Legacy Doctors Quarters.
“This is a solution to accommodation/ housing challenges faced by our doctors in the state.
“The recent tremendous support to ensure increase in slots and spaces for Housemanship Training in the state as spearheaded by the CMD Health management Board Prof. Arab Alhaji will also enhance efficient training and service delivery.
“The recent successful launching and take-off of the Bomo State Contributory Health Scheme with our own Dr Saleh Abba as Executive Secretary. This was done under the distinguished chairmanship of the president-elect of the World Medical Association. It is a feat to help Borno State indigenes to access healthcare without financial burden.”
The NMA concluded: “Your Excellency Sir, the entire doctors in Borno State profoundly appreciate your unprecedented efforts. It is our utmost desire to selflessly and altruistically pay back your good gestures by serving our people diligently and effectively”.
