The Bauchi state government has inaugurated a 34-member committee that would workout the modalities of creating a new chiefdom for the Sayawa tribe in Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area (LGA).
Gov. Bala Mohammed, who presided over the inauguration of the committee in Bauchi on Friday, said the committee is expected to complete the assignment and submit its reports within six weeks.
He said Ambassador Jibrin Chinade would serve as chairman of the committee while Malam Danjuma Garba, the permanent secretary, general services, would serve as the secretary of the committee.
The governor said the terms of reference of the committee are resolve the issue of Sayawa chiefdom as earlier recommended by Justices Babalakin, Shehu Awak and Bala Umar committees and the enabling law on the creation of the chiefdom.
He added that the committee is to establish the demarcation, allocation of capital and the modalities for the appointment of the chief, his class and title and resolve all agitations, including resettlement of all those driven out of the area.
Gov. Mohammed added that the committee is also expected to recommend legal modalities of establishing the chiefdom.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the movement for the creation of the Sayawa chiefdom has been on for the past 30 years.
