By Seyi Babalola Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has instructed all Heads of Local Government Administration, HLGAs, in the state's 23 local government areas to take over councils on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. According to the reports, this decision comes when the tenures of the 23 Chairmen of Local Government Areas (LGAs) expire on Monday, June 17, 2024. In a broadcast on Tuesday morning, Governor Fubara directed the HLGAs to "immediately take charge of the Councils with renewed vigor and readiness to serve, and await further directives as we navigate towards even greater accomplishments together." Governor Fubara praised the outgoing LGA Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councilors for their commitment to their respective communities. He congratulated them on the completion of their terms and wished them luck in their future pursuits. Fubara highlighted that the decision was in compliance with the law and the Federal Republic of Nigeria's constitution, ensuring that the administrative vacuum created by the retiring LGA Chairmen is quickly filled.
