(PRESS STATEMENT)

AANI CELEBRATES BRIGADIER GENERAL SANI KUKASHEKA USMAN (RTD) mni fnipr fapra fnarc FIOARM fspsp, AS HE MARKS HIS BIRTHDAY TODAY — A DISTINGUISHED PATRIOT, STRATEGIC COMMUNICATOR AND SENTINEL OF FREEDOM

On behalf of the National Excective Council, the Executive Committee and entire membership of the Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI), I warmly and joyfully felicitate with one of our most outstanding members, our dear brother, friend and colleague, Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd) mni fnipr, the immediate past National Publicity Secretary of AANI, former Director Army Public Relations and Spokesman of the Nigerian Army, as he marks another remarkable birthday anniversary today.

This special day offers us the opportunity to celebrate a life defined by service, sacrifice, integrity, intellect and uncommon commitment to our esteemed association and nation-building. Brigadier General SK Usman (rtd) mni’s distinguished military career, crowned by his outstanding tenure as Director of Army Public Relations, remains a benchmark in professional military communication, civil-military relations and strategic engagement with the Nigerian public and the international community.

Beyond the uniform, he has continued to serve Nigeria with passion and principle, through thought leadership, mentoring of younger professionals, scholarly contributions, public policy advocacy and steadfast commitment to professional institutions, including AANI, Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR). His voice has consistently been one of reason, patriotism and balance, especially in moments of national challenges.

Equally admirable is his human quality: Brigadier General SK Usman (rtd) mni fnipr is widely respected as a bridge builder and unifier, a consummate team player whose honesty, loyalty and deep respect for colleagues and institutions have earned him enduring admiration across professional, military and civilian circles. Calm, approachable and principled, he brings people together, builds consensus, and inspires trust, qualities that have amplified his leadership impact wherever he has served.

As National Publicity Secretary of AANI, Brigadier General SK Usman (rtd), mni fnipr brought professionalism, excellence, clarity, credibility, discipline and strategic direction to the Association’s communication architecture. He projected AANI with dignity, intellectual depth and national relevance, strengthening its image as Nigeria’s foremost community of strategic thinkers and policy influencers. His contributions will remain indelible in the annals of our Association.

It is, therefore, most fitting and gratifying that the nation, through the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Nigeria, recently honoured him with the prestigious “Sentinel of Freedom Service Award.” This rare recognition, coming after his voluntary retirement from active service, eloquently affirms the enduring value of his sacrifices, leadership and lifelong commitment to the defence, security, national unity and stability of our dear country. AANI is profoundly proud of this well-deserved national honour.

As you celebrate today, dear SK, we salute your courage, intellect, humility and devotion to AANI, Nigeria and humanity. We pray that Almighty God grants you many more years in sound health, renewed strength, deeper wisdom and greater opportunities to continue serving our nation and inspiring generations yet unborn.

Happy Birthday, our brother, leader and Sentinel of Freedom.
Long live Brigadier General Sani Kukasheka Usman (rtd) mni fnipr fapra fnarc FIOARM fspsp!
Long live AANI!
Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
