Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris has called for a thorough investigation into the Nigerian Military’s actions following the recent bandit attack on Government Girls’ Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasago Local Government Area.

According to him, the military withdrew 45 minutes before bandits attacked the school children last week.

Governor Idris, therefore, demanded an investigation into the timing of the troops’ withdrawal and the identity of the person who gave the order for withdrawal.

The Kebbi State Governor made the call and revelation on Monday when he played host to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, who was on a sympathy visit to the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.

“I want to appeal to the National Assembly to invite the military to explain who gave those military officers on duty the order to withdraw.

“This action calls for thorough investigations, because by 3:00a.m. of that fateful day, the military men on duty withdrew, while, by 3:45a.m., the bandits came in and perpetrated their evil intention,” Governor Idris revealed.

He also called for more efficient security efforts to be put in place against banditry, terrorism and criminality by governments at all levels in Nigeria, warning that the menace is growing increasingly worrisome.

According to Idris, it appears some elements are on a deliberate effort to frustrate and disrupt democracy in Nigeria.

He lamented how bandits are able to move in their hundreds over several kilometres without any form of security check before disappearing into the bush.

“What are we doing as a nation?

“The house must do something about the security situation in this country, I believe enemies are working to truncate our democracy,” Idris queried.

The governor, however, assured that both the federal and state governments were doing everything possible to rescue the abducted students and reunite them with their families.

Earlier, the Speaker said the House is concerned about what happened in Kebbi State and believes the government is working around the clock to address the situation.

“We are here to show you our love, our concern over what happened, especially when you and Mr President are doing all you can to fix this country.

“I believe Mr President is doing his best to protect the lives and property of Nigerians,” he said.
