Imo State, Glo Ink Historic Deal to Bridge Digital Divide, Empower Youth

A massive boost for Imo State’s digital future is underway, following a landmark Internet connectivity agreement signed between the State Government (via the Ministry of Digital Economy and e-Governance) and Nigeria’s Technology, Globacom.

The partnership, is designed to accelerate the creation of a digital economy, establish effective e-governance, and build the foundation for a vibrant Smart City in Owerri.

The deal, described as the largest enterprise connectivity project in Globacom’s history, will provide high-speed internet to key institutions, directly benefitting students, civil servants, and the wider community.

Key locations in the state, including the Owerri Smart City project, which houses 15 mega buildings, as well as the Ministry of Digital Economy and e-Governance and the Imo State University for Innovation, Science and Technology (formerly Imo State Polytechnic, will be boosted with high-capacity Internet access by Globacom.

The robust connectivity will be delivered using Globacom’s secure, low-latency Glo-1 submarine cable, guaranteeing world-class service quality essential for running modern education and public services.

Globacom reaffirmed its dedication to driving Nigeria’s growth through cutting-edge connectivity and technology, highlighting the partnership as a testament to its commitment.

Globacom commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for his forward-thinking approach, stating, “We are honoured by the confidence reposed in Globacom by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Chief Hope Uzodinma, and his team, This collaboration affirms our capacity and reliability in delivering enterprise-grade connectivity solutions that drive growth and efficiency. We’re proud to support Imo State’s bold vision for a digital future”.

Globacom added that, “Imo State is setting a remarkable example for other states in Nigeria by leveraging technology to improve governance, education, and business efficiency. “We applaud the Governor’s focus on empowering the youth and building an innovation-driven economy. This partnership aligns perfectly with Globacom’s mission to power Nigeria’s digital future, enhance the State’s strategic investments in digital infrastructure and training initiatives for young people which will create new employment opportunities, stimulate innovation, and accelerate sustainable economic growth”.

With its extensive coverage of all regions in in Nigeria and West Africa, Globacom offers reliable digital connectivity solutions to public and private sectors. Its robust infrastructure, including the Glo-1 fibre network and metro fibre coverage, ensures seamless connectivity for institutions, governments, and businesses, thus driving socio-economic progress

Globacom urged state governments in Nigeria, particularly in the South-East, to follow Imo State’s lead and leverage strategic digital partnerships to drive growth and transformation.
